Enhanced Login Security
On January 11th, 2007, RTP Federal Credit Union added an optional extra layer of security to your Home Banking experience. Enhanced Login Security strengthens security when you log into Home Banking by requiring online users to provide something additional beyond today's username and password login. This enhanced security means that even if a user's password is stolen in a phishing attack or by malicious software, the fraudster cannot access online accounts because they do not possess the additional information needed.
The first time you log-in to Home Banking from any computer (work or home); you will go through a few steps related to this new process:
- After you enter your User ID and password to log-in to Home Banking, a screen will appear asking you to select and answer two (2) Challenge Questions. You will select the questions that you would like to answer from the drop down box, and provide your answers in the space provided.
- Next, a pop up box will appear asking you to "Review & Confirm" your Challenge question selections and the answers. It is important that you remember exactly how you answer these questions so that you can provide the correct answers the next time you are asked. Your Challenge Questions will also be used if you forget your password.
Example: You registered your home computer over the weekend. On Monday you will need to make sure you remember the answers to the Challenge Questions to register your work computer.
- Once you have selected your Challenge Questions, the system will ask you if you would like to enroll the computer you are currently using. We suggest that you enroll your personal computers on which you are the primary user. Do not enroll a public computer that others can access. Once added, the protection is invisible and you will login as normal. During future logins, if you attempt to access your account from an unidentified computer, you will be asked to answer your Challenge Questions before being allowed access Home Banking.
- If you are in the habit of deleting Cookies on your computer, you will be required to answer your Challenge Questions the next time you access Home Banking. The Cookie is the way that Enhanced Login Security recognizes your computer.
Please note: If you are utilizing an external software program to access or "aggregate" information into a centralized viewing location the program may no longer be able to access your Home Banking account information. This is because the software you are using is likely not designed to work with our new enhanced log in process.
